Woman Evades Police Following High-Speed Chase from California into Mexican Territory

A woman formerly staying at a female recovery facility in the state of California allegedly stole a minivan and engaged in a hours-long police chase culminating with her traveling across the international boundary into the nation of Mexico on Monday.

Auto Theft Reported from Sober Living Home

As stated in a police announcement, a another female, the owner of the vehicle, forty-five years old, reported that her gray minivan from 2004 was stolen, along with her car key. Walters, who manages two women’s sober living homes, identified the alleged thief as one of the residents at Diana’s House Sober Living, situated approximately an hour’s drive of LA.

“My keys were taken from my house manager’s purse. I happened to pull up just as it was happening,” Walters stated, adding that the vehicle is used for the facility’s daily operations.

High-Speed Pursuit Develops Across Several Regions

Authorities tracked the van about 19 kilometers to the north in Simi Valley, where they attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect refused to stop and sped away. She attained speeds of about 90mph on the 118 freeway until the chase proceeded into Los Angeles county. At that point, Ventura county authorities transferred the operation to the CHP once Wilson merged onto the Interstate 405 traveling southbound.

“This one is particularly unusual in the context of the road situation enabling individuals to continue to remain on the highway and extend this pursuit,” commented a spokesperson from the local law enforcement agency.

Wilson allegedly dodged all the spike strips tossed on the road by police, as documented in footage from above.

International Getaway and Aftermath

The pursuit finally arrived at the US-Mexico border by 1.30pm, prompting the highway patrol to end its pursuit due to legal limitations.

The vehicle owner stated on the following day that the minivan was located in the Mexican city of Tijuana and that she was coordinating with the CHP to recover the vehicle.

“At the end of the day, I’m not concerned with the car,” Walters remarked. “I’m relieved knowing she was not injured. The car is easily substituted.”

Owner’s Perspective

Walters, who has operated Diana’s House Sober Living since October 2024, acknowledges that the path to recovery from addiction and emotional distress is not always linear.

“This is a mental health and substance abuse crisis,” she said. “We need additional assistance. We need greater resources for those that are struggling.”

“Recovery can be messy,” she added.
