Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten Oscar Piastri at each of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team followed a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending corner leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619secs slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
