Close to 25,000 Experiencing Power in South-East Queensland and Victorian Regions Following Powerful Weather Systems

Around twenty-five thousand households in southeastern Queensland were left experiencing outages on the start of the week after intense storm systems impacted the state, bringing wind gusts reaching 109km/h.

Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Broad Damage

Homeowners observed substantial frozen pellets as large as seven centimeters in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that different parts across Queensland had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing power throughout the damaged zones, with nearly 70 crews deployed to manage the extensive power failures.

Victorian Climate Difficulties

Meanwhile, approximately one thousand residents in the southern state also encountered energy failures after the capital city saw its most precipitation in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services responded to 598 requests for assistance across the region, primarily for structural issues but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

• Hoppers Crossing area - numerous assistance requests
• Wyndham - 179 calls for assistance

At the height on Sunday, in excess of 28k electricity consumers in the state were without power.

Climate Outlook

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along large portions of Queensland's east this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

The following day was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing severe weather risk expected across different parts of both states.

Medical Alert

Public health experts warned that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the countryside regions, especially given the current weather patterns.
